Mental Health & Depression

Depression Statitics

Depression affects individuals regardless of age, race, socio-economic status, or background.  It is one of the most common mental disorders in the U.S.  During this time of social distancing and quarantine, many individuals have noticed an increase in depression symptoms.  Some signs of depression include:

  • Changes in sleep
  • Changes in appetite: either an increase of decrease
  • Poor concentration or ability to make decisions
  • Loss of energy
  • Lack of interest in usual activities.
  • Low self-esteem; dwelling on losses or failures
  • Feelings of hopelessness or guilt—including thoughts of suicide

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for people ages 10-34.  Please see the attached information regarding warning signs and crisis line contact information.  If you notice signs of depression in your child/youth, please click on the following link to download additional information: https://store.samhsa.gov/product/understanding-depression-young-adults/sma16-5004?referer=from_search_result
