Letter to Our Families

September 5, 2019

Dear West Irvine Families,

The month of August flew by at West Irvine!  We want to thank you for all the work and support you have put into getting this year off to a great start!  Our students are busy learning in challenging and engaging instruction every day.  We are sure you’re hearing much more about social studies and science than you have in the past.

We are continuing to work on our Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS).  As part of this work all children should be able to tell you about our expectations: Responsible, Respectful, Safe.  We have also begun our Bullying Prevention Program.  We have included some additional information about both of these programs.  Please come to family night next Thursday, August 12th to learn more about these two programs.  We need your continued support to have the safest culture in our school.

MAP testing began this week and will finish up on August 18th.   This is helps us assess progress in Reading, Math and Language.  Students will have three separate testing sessions.  Please see information from your child’s teacher about the date and time for their class to complete the test.

We are appreciative of all the work our parents and community provide through the West Irvine Intermediate Community Coalition (WIICC) – our parent-teacher organization.  We’re excited for our new playground equipment to arrive!!  We would love to have you become a member of this great organization!!

Attendance is always important.  The staff at West Irvine provides high quality teaching and learning all day, every day.  There really is no ‘good day to miss’.  Of course, we understand if your baby is sick that they need to stay home.  We need them to be well enough to learn when they are here.  Remember that Nurse (Tara) Friend is at school to help with minor problems.  If you have signed permission and brought medications to school, she can administer those at school.

If your child must miss school, be sure to send in a parent (3 per semester) or doctor note.  We need these within 30 days of the absence to be entered in the system.  We cannot go back and enter the excuses after 30 days.

Have a happy fall!!
