School Update: Mode of Instruction Information for February 1, 2021

February Mode of Instruction Metric

Press Release:

January 28, 2021

Estill County Schools release updated Mode of Instruction Guidance Document

As we begin the month of February, Estill County Schools will be following a revised Mode of Instruction Metric Document for the remainder of the school year. This change is necessary to maximize the number of student attendance days this spring, so we can begin to address their academic, physical and social emotional needs. Decisions concerning remote verses in-person instruction for our students will no longer impact the entire district, but rather focus on specific students, classrooms, grade levels and individual schools. We will continue to monitor local and state data and if warranted, we stand ready to make immediate changes to this plan to protect our students, families and staff.

This coming Monday, February 1, Estill County Students will return to in-person instruction using our Hybrid A/B Schedule. Group A students will report on Monday and Tuesday, while group B students will report on Thursday and Friday. Wednesday will continue to be a day for targeted instruction and support for those students and families that have chosen to remain on a remote schedule.

As we move forward this spring and COVID-19 numbers improve, we plan to transition all in-person K - 12 students back to a 4 day per week schedule. Wednesday will continue to be a support day throughout the remainder of the school year. This transition will begin no later than March 1st for grades K – 8 and April 1st for high school students. In order for our schools to prepare for this transition, we will be communicating with families that may be considering changing their school choice option from remote to in-person. Any parent with a student in grades K – 8 will need to make this decision by February 19nd and any parent with a high school student will need to make a final decision by March 19th. After that time, we will finalize our in-person rosters for the remainder of the year.

More detailed information will follow over the coming weeks. Schools have begun to make plans today for the return of our students on Monday. As always, if we experience winter weather we will make adjustments to our schedule as needed. If you have any questions you can call your child’s school at any time.
