Welcome West Irvine Families and Students:

We realize this pandemic is something that none of us could have imagined at this time last year.  But, thanks to you, this has been a great first week back!!  We appreciate all of the hard work you are doing at home. We want you to know that we are here to support you and your child.  We will work together to keep two-way communication in place to help us with this.  We know our West Irvine families are the BEST to be found!!

To help with two-way communication, please download the DoJo App on your phone.  You can use this to communicate with your child's teacher and get school information.  The communication plan will be share in DoJo and on the school website/Facebook page.  https://www.estill.kyschools.us/. In this plan you will see the expectations for the school and the family.  If you have questions about this plan, please contact Ms. Arvin at 723-4800 or charlotte.arvin@estill.kyschools.us.  Once we are back in person, we will also use Family Communication Envelopes on Thursday.  Student work and paper copies of important information can be sent home.

I am resharing the expectations, so that we will all know what we need to accomplish.  They are:

  • Work for the week must be submitted weekly no later than Friday.
  • Read, watch, or listen to the directions and work carefully.
  • Know when your teacher will be online and ask for help and explanations if needed. (Please be aware that the timeliness of email responses will vary.) If you do not have internet access and a device, be sure to communicate with your teacher at least weekly by phone.
  • Share work and discuss ideas with your teacher and with other students, when appropriate.
  • Look for assignments that your teacher has reviewed, and/or commented on.  You may need to correct or re-do assignments.

Teachers will be contacting families and/or students daily.  We are required to keep attendance based on our contact with families.  Contact can be:

  • DoJo messages
  • Work Submitted in Google
  • Email
  • Phone Call
  • Paper/Pencil work submitted on Friday

***It is EXTREMELY important that students work with teachers to become proficient learners based on their grade-level standards.  The BEST way to do this is through online learning:this allows the student to talk with teachers to get feedback quickly.  This may also help with emotional health as they interact with peers as they are learning.

We need each family to do the following things:

  • Return all student information/back to school packet to school by Friday, August 28
  • IF your child is a paper/pencil learner, drop off and pick up work at school between 9:00-2:00 on Friday, August 29.  THIS WILL OCCUR WEEKLY.  Please be sure your child's work has their name and teacher's name clearly visible.
  • Join daily class meetings online (if this is impossible because you do not have internet or have a scheduling conflict, contact the teacher by other means listed above.)
    • Third grade meeting is at 1:40
    • Fourth grade meeting is at 9:30
    • Fifth grade meeting is at 11:00
  • Families hug your students; students hug your families
  • STAY AMAZING!!!! :)

If you need assistance, please call us at 723-4800 or email at charlotte.arvin@estill.kyschools.us  Our family resource office can be reached at 723-7733 or courtney.barnes@estill.kyschools.us

Sincerely,

Charlotte Arvin

Welcome to 2020-21 West Irvine Intermediate Engineers!  We are so pleased to welcome the Classes of 2030 (Third Grade), 2029 (Fourth Grade) and 2028 (Fifth Grade)!

Because this year is different, we have so many opportunities to learn in new ways.  WE believe much of this learning will actually prepare these classes for their 'real world'. It is much different than the adults have experienced, but is in sync with the future.

We do hold a few key beliefs to be true--to guide us through this learning process:

  1. We expect to build a virtual community that supports each student feeling connected to our school community.
  2. We expect to challenge students with new learning and experiences.
  3. We expect every child to develop relationships with staff members that can help them make their dreams a reality.

We feel we are ready to excel at this challenge because we had to quickly learn and implement a new normal for learning in the spring of 2019-20 NTI days.  Our staff has realized that we can learn to use new technology to challenge our students and expect high quality learning.  We will strive to create an environment where students can achieve our expectations, and be safe and protected.

To prepare students to meet or exceed expectations we need to clearly communicate the expectations that will support the learning environment.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

As we begin remote learning, it is important to focus on the established expectations so that we can maximize the success of our students. The expectations are: Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe.

Daily Responsibility of Students

Our expectation is that you check for assignments at least once daily, Monday through Friday.  It will be easier if you set up a regular time of the day to complete work; this time should occur between the hours of 8:00-3:15.  Have a space in your home set aside to do your work i.e. kitchen table, desk.

We know we will make this a great year because of all our GREAT students, families, and staff.  From talking with you, I know you are ready for this new learning experience! If you have any questions or needs, please contact me at 723-4800 or charlotte.arvin@estill.kyschools.us

Sincerely,

Charlotte Arvin
